How to Host a Successful Mixer in Downtown LA: A Bar Association’s Rooftop Event

8/23/2025

Planning a professional mixer that feels both seamless and engaging takes more than just a beautiful space. It requires a venue that can manage details, anticipate needs, and ensure the event runs smoothly from start to finish. Recently, our rooftop garden welcomed 180 members of a local bar association for a lively evening mixer that checked all the boxes. Here’s how the night came together and what you can take away for your own event.
A Smooth Arrival Experience
The evening began at a check-in table where attendees were greeted with name tags and provided with parking validations right on the spot. This made the arrival process simple and stress-free, so guests could head straight into the event without worrying about logistics.

Atmosphere and Layout
Our garden was set with string lights, shaded lounge areas, and tents to create a comfortable and inviting setting. The balance of open space and cozy seating allowed for effortless networking while still keeping guests cool and relaxed.

Food and Beverage Flow
To encourage movement and conversation, six appetizer stations were placed throughout the garden. Guests enjoyed a mix of light and hearty bites including:
  • Chicken skewers
  • Steak satay
  • Mini pesto grilled cheese sandwiches
  • Bruschetta
  • Beef sliders
A dessert station was added later in the evening, while a full cash bar served cocktails, beer, and wine. Our bartending team kept service quick and polished so that guests could focus on mingling.

Program and Entertainment
The bar association featured four speakers throughout the evening. We coordinated with an A/V vendor to provide microphones and sound support, along with an on-site technician to ensure the program ran without interruption. A highlight of the night came when one of the speakers surprised the crowd with a karaoke performance, which immediately energized the audience.

Guests also enjoyed a stationed cartoonist who created live sketches as keepsakes. This unique touch encouraged interaction and gave attendees something fun to take home.

Key Takeaways for Planning a Mixer
This event showed how the right details can make a mixer both professional and memorable:
  • Streamlined check-in with name tags and parking validations
  • Comfortable setup with shade, tents, and lighting
  • Multiple appetizer stations that encouraged mingling and minimized lines
  • Full bar service with attentive staff
  • A professionally managed A/V setup with vendor coordination handled by our team
  • Memorable entertainment that kept the atmosphere lively

Why It Worked
Every element of this mixer was carefully planned and managed by our team, from food and beverage to sound support and entertainment. By taking care of the setup and vendor coordination, we allowed the client to focus on connecting with their guests rather than worrying about logistics. The result was an evening that felt effortless and engaging for everyone who attended.

If you are planning a corporate mixer, bar association gathering, or professional networking event, our rooftop garden offers the perfect setting along with the support needed to bring your vision to life.
